With over 650 schemes and almost 15,000 households under its protection, Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) in Telford & Wrekin continues to go from strength-to-strength.

However, Telford's NHW Administrator Mrs Anne Walker is again encouraging residents of Telford & Wrekin to consider forming their own scheme if their area doesn’t already have one.

PostHeaderIcon Newport Swimming Pool refurbishment confirmed

Plans for a half million pound investment in Newport Swimming Pool as part of the Borough Towns Initiative regeneration programme are set to start on Monday 6 September.

Parts of the roof will be replaced and the installation of a new air handling unit and insulation within the pool hall will improve the experience for swimmers and spectators.

The pool will be closed to the public from Monday 6 September for an estimated 10-12 weeks to enable the essential maintenance and refurbishment work to be undertaken.

PostHeaderIcon New safety scheme at Hadley Learning Community

A new safety scheme to prevent off road bikes, quads and mini motos using the grounds at Hadley Learning Community has been completed with the installation of permanent barriers.

Both school users and members of the community accessing facilities at Hadley Learning Community were being put in danger by the illegal use of such vehicles.

The Safer Stronger Communities Partnership to include West Mercia Police, Hadley & Leegomery Parish Council and Interserve have worked together to achieve a more sustainable solution following criminal damage to previous installations.

PostHeaderIcon Safety fear closes Bolas Bridge

Telford & Wrekin Council has been forced to close a minor road which straddles the boundary with Shropshire Council after a routine inspection found a bridge had become unsafe due to erosion of the river bed.

The unclassified road between Great Bolas and Little Bolas will be shut for a number of weeks while temporary safety measures are put in place to bolster the bridge.

It is expected the first phase of work to get the road re-opened may cost up to £30,000 with a more long-term solution likely to be as much as £100,000.

Telford and Wrekin this year have made massive investments into the local areas, they have invested £14m into refurbishing the Highways and procedures are due to be carried out on the Donnington Wood Roundabout starting on Monday 16th August and will be carrying on for 2 weeks. The changes will involve skimming and renewing the worn out surface of the roundabout and footpaths will be improved.

PostHeaderIcon SUMMER ART PROJECTS to help boost young people’s prospects

School leavers and other young people in Telford and Wrekin are being encouraged to attend one of a series of five day projects aimed at boosting their motivation and inspiration.

Telford & Wrekin Council’s Connexions 4 Youth service is running three separate five day projects that will involve a combination of visual arts, film making, photography, music sampling, animation, song writing, blogging, music production and other creative activities.

PostHeaderIcon Local contractor appointed for Sutton Hill regeneration works

Local contractor McPhillips (Wellington) Ltd have been awarded the contract for the regeneration works at Sutton Hill local centre.

The regeneration works are a key priority for local residents, they were initially consulted in September 2009 and then on the detailed proposals in March 2010.

The consultation and public exhibitions indicated overwhelming support from residents for the proposals and Planning Consent was granted in June 2010.

Works are now due to start at the end of this month and should be completed by the end of May 2011.
