Two new Police Community Support Officers began work in north Shropshire today. They have joined West Mercia’s Local Policing teams in Market Drayton Town and Whitchurch Town areas.

CSO Andy Hudson has been appointed to the Market Drayton post working with PC Paul Frank and CSOs Andy King, Angeline Roche and Mike Ellis. CSO Alison Hodnett becomes part of the Whitchurch team, alongside PC Karena Evans and CSOs Tim Meredith, Graeme Baines and Laura Viner.

PostHeaderIcon Relatives of railway workers encouraged to attend ceremony

Shropshire Council and the Shropshire War Memorials Association are encouraging the relatives of railway workers, named on the Roll of Honour at Shrewsbury Rail Station, to attend a rededication ceremony next month (14 September 2010).

The Roll of Honour, installed on platform three to commemorate the Shropshire railwaymen who fell in the Great War of 1914-1918, has been refurbished as part of the council’s ongoing improvements to the station.

PostHeaderIcon Cold Case Review for rail death victims

In the first exercise of its kind, the National Policing Improvement Agency (NPIA) and British Transport Police have launched a review into a series of unidentified fatalities dating back 35 years.

Twenty artist’s drawings of dead people found on or near Britain’s rail and Tube network since the mid-70s, but who remain unidentified, have been released as part of the review. There were no suspicious circumstances surrounding any of the deaths, two of whom were women.

Police in Shropshire today renewed warnings for horse and stable owners to ensure their properties were secure after riding tackle was stolen from a Whitchurch.

Although tack thefts remain relatively unusual in the county, when they happen they tend to happen in spates and people are urged to take steps to reduce the risk of their premises being targeted.

The most recent theft happened sometime between Saturday (AUG 14) and Sunday (AUG 15) in an isolated location near Whitchurch.

This autumn Wellington Rotary Club, joined by Rotary clubs all across the British Isles are planning to plant thousands of purple Crocus bulbs. The object of this initiative is to raise funds to continue the programme to eradicate Polio worldwide and any monies raised will be matched by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. At the same time the plantings will enhance environments and develop communities.

Between about 8.20pm on Wednesday July 28 and yesterday and 7.15am yesterday, a stables in Ollerton was broken into an upwards of 14 saddles and 20 bridles stolen.

The British Gliding Association plus Wrekin and Staffordshire Gliding Clubs will be putting on a glider weekend for visitors at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th July 2010.

Wrekin and Staffordshire Gliding Clubs are offering visitors the chance to buy trial flights for a discounted price of only £60 per person. This includes a 20 minute flight up to 2000ft in a two seater glider with a qualified instructor. These unique trial flights will be available from 10.00am to 5.00pm both days to visitors over the age of 14 (weather permitting).
