PostHeaderIcon ‘Jack The Lad’ swaggers into Castle Galleries, Telford

In a launch that looks set to create one of the most highly collectable sets of art this year, Castle Galleries, Telford is fortunate enough to be selected to show a number of signed limited editions from the fabulous ‘Jack The Lad’ series, created by artist Keith Proctor. The utterly endearing collection of eight, signed limited edition prints and a selection of originals will appear in the gallery located in House of Fraser from Saturday 13 March and could see art fans queuing around the block.

PostHeaderIcon Makeover for Ironbridge continues

Work is now underway on major repairs to the surface of the Wharfage car park in Ironbridge as part of a makeover of the area in time for the new tourist season.

To date £15,000 has already been invested in a major declutter and refurbishment of the historic town which has seen redundant poles and signposts removed and street lights replaced.

PostHeaderIcon British Legion, Newport, burglary

Newport, Shropshire, Police officers are investigating a burglary in the town. The incident occurred at the British Legion Club on Audley Avenue.

At some time between 11.45pm on Sunday 28th February and 9am on Monday 1st March, it appears thieves broke into the premises by forcing open a fire door that leads into the function room.

The bar area in the club is locked overnight which prevents access but the thieves knocked through a wall inside the building to access the back of a safe and remove it from the wall.

The results have been declared in by elections for two Telford & Wrekin Council wards and one seat on Wellington Town Council.

By elections were held on Thursday (Feb 11) for the College Ward of Telford & Wrekin Council and the College Ward of Wellington Town Council and the Nedge Ward of Telford & Wrekin Council.

UKIP, will be fielding a candidate at the General Election. The United Kingdom Independence Party has announced councillor Denis Allen is the UKIP prospective parliamentary candidate for the Telford Constituency.

Denis says "The Labour Party promised a referendum on whether the British people wanted to surrender our rights and freedoms to the European Commission and then broke that promise when Gordon Brown sneaked off to Lisbon and signed that surrender document.

PostHeaderIcon Council to secure Dawley club’s future and bonanza for local charities

Telford & Wrekin Council looks to have ensured the long-serving Dawley Memorial Club can continue as a major community facility for the area after securing its future.

The Council has agreed to buy the club’s main building from the Trust that runs this and will lease this back so that the club can continue to be a focal point for people in Dawley.

The sale will also trigger a windfall for three Dawley-based charities who had previously applied for any proceeds from this following trustees decision to wind up the charity.

He was lucky enough to be chosen as one of one hundred volunteers, each of whom is going to get a tattoo of one of one hundred endangered species from the UK.

A Shropshire woman whose mother died of a heart attack on Christmas Day in 2007, is taking part in the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) High Peak Trail Winter Challenge, on Sunday 22 November 2009.

Deborah Weaver (40), from Telford, felt inspired to take on the 17 mile hike and make a difference in memory of her mother. Deborah will be walking with her brother Mark and friend Joanne and hopes that the people of Shropshire will support their efforts and sign up for the event.

West Midland farmers, foresters and growers can access the first slice of a £4.4million funding pot, as LandSkills West Midlands launches a £435,000 winter training programme.

LandSkills West Midlands, managed by Lantra Sector Skills Council, offers up to 80% funding towards training activities to eligible businesses in the West Midlands. The £435,000 has been allocated towards the winter training programme, including farm health plans, herd health management, study tours, discussion groups, connecting farming with energy, woodfuel management, etc.
