‘Jack The Lad’ swaggers into Castle Galleries, Telford
In a launch that looks set to create one of the most highly collectable sets of art this year, Castle Galleries, Telford is fortunate enough to be selected to show a number of signed limited editions from the fabulous ‘Jack The Lad’ series, created by artist Keith Proctor. The utterly endearing collection of eight, signed limited edition prints and a selection of originals will appear in the gallery located in House of Fraser from Saturday 13 March and could see art fans queuing around the block.
Bon voyage to Moorfield Primary School students
Students from a Newport primary school are heading abroad for an action packed trip to France, today. The pupils from Moorfield Primary School will be returning on Friday (MAR 12).
The journey starts at the school where they will be grabbing their seats on the coach ready to drive down to board the ferry from Portsmouth to Cherbourg.
The Year Six pupils will be staying at Chateau Beaumont in Les Courges, Chailland, where they will be able to zip wire across tree tops and scale climbing walls at the outdoor activity centre.
Rescue the Easter Bunny!
Around this time of year it’s impossible to open a magazine or turn on the TV without seeing a cute rabbit. They’re everywhere on billboards, in magazines, and on packaging up and down the aisles of supermarkets. It’s no wonder that sales of pet rabbits explode at Easter. It’s at this time of year that ‘pester power’ comes into its own, with children begging their parents for a lovely fluffy bunny.
Borough backs Fairtrade Fortnight
Telford & Wrekin Council have been showing their support for Fairtrade Fortnight with a stall selling Fairtrade goodies including crafts, jewellery, tea, coffee, cake, biscuits, chocolate and much more.
The stall was in Civic Offices on Monday 1 March, and organisers were delighted to have raised £111 over the course of a few hours.
If you missed the stall but would like to purchase Fairtrade products, supermarkets in the borough such as the Co op, Asda, Tesco, and Sainsbury’s sell a wide range of Fairtrade goods.
Music showcase celebrates borough’s young talent
Children and young people from Telford and Wrekin schools have been making music that will be showcased at Oakengates Theatre @ The Place on Wednesday 17 March.
The doors will open at 7pm where students will be ready to hit the stage with their musical performances. Tickets for the Telford and Wrekin Music Showcase are now on sale at The Place Box Office.
Help share the care!
Telford and Wrekin’s family placement team are asking people from across the borough to help make a big difference to the life of a disabled child and their family.
People who are interested in offering short breaks to support disabled children and their families are invited to attend the Share Care Celebration held at the Shropshire Golf Club at 10am till 12 noon on Saturday 6 March.
Shropshire-wide Purse Thefts Warning
Police across Shropshire today renewed warnings for people to be alert and keep a close eye on their valuables, especially purses and handbags, while shopping.
The advice comes after a number of purse thefts reported in various parts of the county in recent days, where purses were ‘dipped’ from bags.
Officers urged people to keep handbags securely fastened and to be aware of persons standing around or close to them at all times while out and about.

Fighting Polio from Wellington
Rotary clubs, worldwide, have worked since 1985 to eradicate Polio, making remarkable progress, as the disease is now found in only four countries: India, Afghanistan, Pakistan and parts of Africa.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation challenged Rotary to raise $355,000,000, to be matched by the foundation. So UK Rotary Clubs are working hard to raise money for this worthy cause.
Fairtrade for local school
St. Patrick's Catholic Primary School North Road, Wellington is participating in Fairtrade Fortnight 22nd Feb - 5th March as part of a continuing Millenium Development Goal Awareness and promotion scheme run by Bridges Charity in Wellington. During this fortnight there will be a number of activities.
Amongst these will be a graffiti artist, Nich Halahan, who will be coming to work with the 8 children on the MDG team and the child's whose design was chosen to be used as the stimulus of the graffiti. The board will be displayed on a wall visible in the playground.
