Police ready for Shropshire Respect Week
Shropshire Police officers are organising a host of summer activities to mark “Respect Week” highlighting efforts to reduce anti-social behaviour through working with young people. Local Policing teams in West Mercia – including Shropshire Division – have been leading the way in providing constructive and enjoyable activities for young people as part of their community engagement programmes.
Their efforts have succeeded in building bridges between the police and youngsters and also between young people and other sections of the local community.
Disabled children's fun day strikes double gold
A family fun day organised by Telford & Wrekin Council's disabled children's team will be graced by two international sports stars that have won gold medals at their respective events. The free event - titled Ican2 - will be opened by Olympic javelin thrower Tessa Sanderson and closed by Paralympian star Debbie Brennan.
It will take place at Telford International Centre and is aimed at disabled children and those with additional needs. It takes place this Saturday, 4th July.
Accolades for Sports Clubs in award ceremony
A top cricket coach scooped top award in a ceremony recognising the achievements of Telford and Wrekin's sports clubs. Phil Lloyd received the Ricoh Perpetual Award for his Outstanding Contribution to Sport and Physical Activity at Telford and Wrekin Sports Club Awards evening at Sport TCAT.
This inaugural event included eight individual awards and was overseen by Telford and Wrekin Sports Advisory Council, supported by Ricoh, TCAT and TWC.
Winners will represent Telford and Wrekin in October's Energize Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin event.
Olympian star guest at disabled children's fun day
Olympic gold medallist Tessa Sanderson CBE will be the guest of honour at a family fun day next month organised by Telford & Wrekin Council's disabled children's team.
The free event - titled Ican2 - will take place at Telford International Centre on July 4 and is aimed at disabled children and those with additional needs.
Tessa Sanderson CBE, who won gold in the javelin at the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984, will be meeting, working with and inspiring children, young people and adults throughout the day.
Calling all quirky collectors
Norwich Union will open the doors to some unusual and interesting collections as it launches a search for collectors to come forward and star in a new film. The best will feature in a short online film celebrating eccentric collectors. The firm is seeking images and anecdotes of our quirkiest collections to be uploaded to www.happysback.com.
