Comedian Stephen K Amos’ top-selling show, ‘The Feelgood Factor’, coincided with Oakengates Theatre’s celebration of the first anniversary of ‘A Night Less Ordinary’, the Arts Council scheme which provides free theatre tickets to people under 26.

One of the young people commented, “The show was great and we really enjoyed it. I think the scheme is a brilliant idea as it gives younger people a chance to experience different areas of culture which could broaden their interests.”

This well-established, award winning theatre group launched a spectacular summer arts extravaganza comprising One-Act plays which ran for three performances. Despite the recessionary blues and the summer holidays, it was well-supported by their patrons and they have been rewarded with a definite hit and a possible for inclusion in next year’s repertoire season.

Shropshire’s award-winning theatre, The Belfrey Theatre, will be staging the 36 Wellington Drama Festival, which is now an integral part of the Wellington Literary Festival.

The plays are “Time Flies” “Cleanskin” and “Little Box of Oblivion”. It runs from Thursday 29 to Saturday 31 of October. Doors open 7pm curtain up 7.30pm. Tickets £5 or £4 concessions. Box Office 01952 222277.
 

PostHeaderIcon Arts college success for youngsters

Eight young people have successfully completed the Arts Council’s bronze award as part of Shropshire Telford & Wrekin Youth Offending Service’s efforts to help them back into mainstream education, training or employment. The group took part in a summer arts college run as part of a joint scheme between the Youth Justice Board and Arts Council England.

The college provides a structured programme of arts-based activity during the summer holidays using Arts Enrichment resources including dance, drama, visual and music genres.

Toddlers across Telford and Wrekin take centre stage this week as they join in 'Out of the Blue' - a new drama production for children.

'Out of the Blue' brings together children aged six to twenty four months and is part of a brand new fun and interactive drama programme, designed to test a child's sensory skills.

This week, the twenty five minute 'Out of the Blue' drama production will be performed in front of parents and carers at schools across the borough.

Here's to the re-birth of the Restoration comedy which is what we have in spades in Alan Bennett's riotously funny play - Habeus Corpus, (writes our Theatrical correspondent, Christopher Owen) Despite its permissive society setting of the early seventies it owes much to its theatrical heritage and would not have been out of place in the world of David Garrick and Oliver Goldsmith in Eighteenth century English theatre. Because of the form it is written in, the direct addresses to the audience breaking the narrative plot 

PostHeaderIcon Telford's Got Talent star opens show

The winner of Telford's Got Talent is to star as the headline act at the 'Youth Showcase for Telford and Wrekin' event. The show will take centre stage at Oakengates Theatre @ The Place on 11 May at 7.30pm. The 'Telford's Got Talent' winner, Daniel Crossley from Madeley, will open the show which is set to include an exciting mix of music, dance and drama. Daniel Crossley recently won the talent contest, Telford's Got Talent, singing his own version of Beyonce's, 'Listen', in front of an audience of more 500 people.
