Kicking Anti-Social Behaviour into Touch to Reel in Results This Summer
Football and fishing are the order of the long summer days in Shrewsbury, with sessions run by local police and community support officers to keep young people off the streets.
The McDonald's football training sessions and Environment Agency sponsored Get Hook in Fishing events introduced a couple of years ago continue to go from strength to strength.
Local Police in Whitchurch Organise Activities for Youngsters
Football, skating and a "treasure dig" are among activities being organised by local police for youngsters in the Whitchurch area.
The activities are being lined-up for the school summer holidays as part of the ongoing police policy of engaging with young people. It also coincides with West Mercia Police Respect Week which runs from July 26.
Sergeant Kirsty Hill, of the Whitchurch Local Policing Team, said the policy of engaging with youngsters had succeeded in reducing incidents of anti-social behaviour in many areas.
Don't be downhearted!
"Wellington Methodist Pre School are not downhearted over England being knocked out of the World Cup. Ofsted consider us to be an Outstanding Pre School so we will rise to the challenge. We are continuing to celebrate with our healthy sports activities and will be using our Knowledge and Understanding of the World to look at where all the other countries are on our world map. Telford & Wrekin Music Big Sing 2010
One thousand five hundred pupils from primary schools across the borough are coming together for a summer mass celebration of singing and music on Tuesday 29 June.
The 'Telford Big Sing 2010' will take place at AFC Telford United Football Stadium and follows on from the successful Big Sing 2009 at AFC Telford United. Both events are organised by Telford & Wrekin Music and led by Mary Keith and Paul Wilcox.
Football fans urged to give horses wide berth
Following an incident in Cornwall The British Horse Society is urging England Football supporters to be aware of the dangers that flying flags on their cars could create for horses and riders.
A rider was hospitalised in Southern Cornwall when the horse she was riding took fright at the noise of flapping flags mounted on the bonnet of a passing car. The horse bolted and fell, narrowly missing a second car.
Police and licensees stand united
The Wrockwardine Wood & Trench Local Policing Team has - in conjunction with local licensed premises - launched a mutual banning scheme to deter disorder and anti-social behaviour during the football World Cup.
Show ’domestic’ abuse the red card
Not everyone will see the forthcoming World Cup as a time of fun and excitement: drink-fuelled domestic abuse will ruin it for some. Incidents spike when England are playing; but there's no excuse for it, win or lose, and West Mercia Police is urging victims and witnesses to blow the whistle on domestic abuse.
* Reports of domestic abuse increased by nearly a third (30 per cent) on England football match days.
* Nearly half of all suspects in domestic abuse cases were drunk at the time of the crime.
Policing the World Cup in the Borough
With the World Cup just around the corner, West Mercia Police is launching a campaign to let local residents know that, along with its local partner agencies, the force will be doing all it can to make sure the tournament passes safely and enjoyably.
While reassuring the public that "we're putting in extra time" to police the streets, particularly during England matches, we are also reminding those who might try to use the football as an excuse for alcohol-related violence, that "Kick off... and face the penalty".
Schools set to participate in local Olympics
Local school children from across the West Midlands will be taking part in the Olympics 2012 Inspire to Aim Higher event, hosted at the RAF Museum Cosford on Tuesday 25th May. This special event is a collaboration which aims to promote participation, inclusion and competition, whilst highlighting the values of the Olympic and Paralympic movement.
The day will commence with an opening ceremony including music supplied by the RAF Cosford band, a performance from the Idsall School dance group and an introduction to the day's activities.
