The results have been declared in by election for two parish council seats and one town council seat on three different authorities in the borough of Telford and Wrekin.
By elections were held on Thursday (MAR 11) for the Hadley and Leegomery Ward of Hadley and Leegomery Parish Council, the Central Ward of Lawley & Overdale Parish Council and the Oakengates Ward of Oakengates Town Council.

PostHeaderIcon Postal votes issued for Parish Council by-elections

Just over 5,000 postal votes have now been issued to postal voters in three parish wards who go to the polls next Thursday (March 11).

By elections are being held for the Hadley and Leegomery Ward of Hadley & Leegomery Parish Council, the Central Ward of Lawley & Overdale Parish Council and the Oakengates Ward of Oakengates Town Council.

Telford and Wrekin has the fifth highest number of postal voters in the country, with one in three of borough electors voting by post.

PostHeaderIcon Borough prepares for by-elections for Parish Council seats

On Thursday (March 11) voters in three parish wards go to the polls to decide who will represent them on their parish councils.

By-elections are being held for the Hadley and Leegomery Ward of Hadley & Leegomery Parish Council, Central Ward Lawley & Overdale Parish Council and Oakengates Ward of Oakengates Town Council.

Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm on Thursday for those wanting to cast their votes in person.

A major consultation of groups and people by TWC shows overwhelming support for the Council’s proposed budget which would see council tax increase by the smallest amount for a decade.

This would see TWCs council tax bill, already the lowest in the Midlands this year for like-for-like services, rise by 1.9%, equivalent to 31p per week for the average borough home.

At a range of borough-wide consultation events, the Council asked over 1,350 people their views on the proposals.

PostHeaderIcon New Police surgery launched at PRH

On Thursday 11th February a newly launched ‘Police Surgery’ will be held at the Princess Royal Hospital for the first time. The surgery – which is being launched by Community Support Officer Alan Ambrose (PICTURED) from the Hadley and Leegomery Local Policing Team – has been set up to give local people attending the hospital the chance to speak to the police officers and CSOs that serve them and share any issues or concerns they have.

PostHeaderIcon Young people voting to elect YP reps

Young people in Telford and Wrekin have been voting throughout January and February to elect their representative and his or her deputy on the UK Youth Parliament.

An ongoing electoral process for 11-18 year olds will culminate at the council’s Civic Offices on Wednesday (FEB 10) when young people will open ballot boxes to find the candidate.

Telford & Wrekin Council has been proactively promoting the work of the Youth Parliament and it is hoped that more than 5,000 young people will vote in this year’s election.

Food delivery man attacked in Wellington

Wellington Police officers are appealing for information following an assault in the town. The incident occurred on Pooler Close on Friday 5th February.

Sometime between 8.30pm and 9pm, as the victim, a 31-year-old man, delivered food to an address on Pooler Close, he was approached by two unknown men who grabbed him by the shoulders and pushed against a wall.

On Thursday 11 March, by-elections will take place to fill vacancies that have arisen on Parish Councils in the borough.

The vacancy for the Central Ward of Lawley and Overdale Parish Council has arisen following the recent death of former Councillor Pauline Picken.

Following the resignation of former Councillor Steven Durling last month, there is a vacancy for the Hadley & Leegomery Ward of the Parish of Hadley & Leegomery.

PostHeaderIcon Second community concern site for Telford & Wrekin

The Safer Roads Partnership in West Mercia is launching a second mobile speed enforcement site in Telford & Wrekin on Monday 25 January as part of its new community concern pilot scheme which aims to address concerns from local residents about speeding and road safety issues.

The new site on Haygate Road, Wellington, is being launched following what the partnership describes as: “significant levels of concern from the local community about the speed of traffic using the road.”

PostHeaderIcon Bin collections resume as crews work to catch up

Bin collections resumed in Telford and Wrekin today and residents are being asked to leave their rubbish out as crews work to clear the backlog caused by the snow and freezing temperatures.

Rubbish and recycling collections were suspended because of the dangerous conditions yesterday. And residents are being asked for their patience and understanding today as crews work to catch up on bins that were missed.

Residents should leave their rubbish out so that crews can get back to them as soon as they are able.
