Car park crash in Wem
Police in Wem are appealing for witnesses to a collision in the car park of the Co-Op store in High Street.
It involved a white Vauxhall Movano van parked near the recycling bins and an unknown vehicle which failed to stop.
The van received dent damage to the driver’s side back door. It was only parked there for around 10 minutes at around 1pm on Thursday (Aug 12).
Witnesses are asked to contact Wem police station on 0300 333 3000.
Police Praise Bank Staff Over Church Stretton Bogus Callers
Police have praised staff at a Church Stretton bank for preventing an elderly woman falling victim to bogus callers.
Staff at the Lloyds TSB branch in the High Street alerted police when the 78-year-old customer came into the bank today asking to withdraw a large sum of cash to pay two men for doing gardening work at her home.
Detective Inspector Sarah Wagstaff said: "Their suspicions were raised because the lady seemed confused and anxious.
Mini digger stolen in Hadley
Telford Police officers are appealing for information following a theft in Hadley. The incident occurred at address on the High Street on Wednesday 12th May.
Sometime between 2pm and 3pm it appears that thieves entered the rear garden at the property by accessing it via the garden on the derelict property that is next door.
Once inside the garden it appears that thieves targeted and stole a mini garden digger worth around £300 before making their escape.
Postal votes issued for Parish Council by-elections
Just over 5,000 postal votes have now been issued to postal voters in three parish wards who go to the polls next Thursday (March 11).
By elections are being held for the Hadley and Leegomery Ward of Hadley & Leegomery Parish Council, the Central Ward of Lawley & Overdale Parish Council and the Oakengates Ward of Oakengates Town Council.
Telford and Wrekin has the fifth highest number of postal voters in the country, with one in three of borough electors voting by post.
Borough prepares for by-elections for Parish Council seats
On Thursday (March 11) voters in three parish wards go to the polls to decide who will represent them on their parish councils.
By-elections are being held for the Hadley and Leegomery Ward of Hadley & Leegomery Parish Council, Central Ward Lawley & Overdale Parish Council and Oakengates Ward of Oakengates Town Council.
Polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm on Thursday for those wanting to cast their votes in person.
Pavement Trial on Newport High Street
Paving which could be lining Newport High Street is currently on view and the Council wants to hear what residents think. The trial panels will be displayed until 15 February as part of the Borough Towns Initiative Scheme to regenerate the High Street.
As part of the scheme, the High Street between Upper Bar and Lower Bar, and Central Square will be re-paved and new street lighting and signage will also be introduced where appropriate.
Whitburn Street to remain one-way, Bridgnorth
Shropshire Council has agreed Bridgnorth’s Whitburn Street will remain one-way, following discussions with local members and senior council officers.
The original proposal for the street, put forward at a public consultation carried out in November 2009, included a signed pedestrian zone which restricted vehicle access. However, this proposal received a mixed reception and was not supported by the local members due to concerns over congestion and associated access problems.
Part of car park closes for final works
Part of a Telford car park will be closed temporarily while final improvement works are carried out. The Meadow Road car park in Dawley closed in November to enable improvements to be carried out under Telford & Wrekin Council’s multi million pound Borough Towns Initiative.
But it reopened in December to enable shoppers and traders to take advantage of the extra space over the Christmas period.
Firework crackdown
This month Telford & Wrekin Council‘s Trading Standards team has been working with the Night Time Economy Officers investigating whether high street retailers are storing and selling fireworks correctly.
The current minimum age restriction for firework sales is 18 years. The Council has used a sixteen-year-old to covertly visit stores to check compliance with the law. One store in the borough sold fireworks.
