A simple phone call seems to be the ideal gift this Mothering Sunday, a new study of more than 1,000 mums by the UK's leading mobile phone comparison website has revealed. A phone call was a favourite gift for 46% of the mums, but the length of the call was the catch.
Knitted Nativity captivates children
Children passing by Wellington Library on Saturday were captivated by the new Nativity display being assembled in the Library window. Young children were tugging at their mother’s sleeve to stop and look as all the familiar figures appeared – Mary, Joseph, the Angel Gabriel, shepherds, animals, wise men – but each one had been hand-knitted by different members of the new Mothers Union branch at All Saints Wellington.
Shropshire Woman takes High Peak Trail Winter Challenge for BHF
A Shropshire woman whose mother died of a heart attack on Christmas Day in 2007, is taking part in the British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) High Peak Trail Winter Challenge, on Sunday 22 November 2009.
Deborah Weaver (40), from Telford, felt inspired to take on the 17 mile hike and make a difference in memory of her mother. Deborah will be walking with her brother Mark and friend Joanne and hopes that the people of Shropshire will support their efforts and sign up for the event.
Family Fun Day for Norton-in-Hales
A family fun day is being staged in Norton-in-Hales, near Market Drayton on Sunday with a friendly cricket match as one of the main attractions.
The event has been organised by the Local Policing Officer for Market Drayton Rural North, PC Paul Frank with assistance from police colleagues and supported by other members of the local community.
A local police team has thrown down a challenge to the Norton-in-Hales B team, with the match being played at the village cricket ground.
Top cop welcomes jail time for burglar
Telford’s most senior detective has today welcomed the jail sentence imposed on a prolific burglar. Detective Chief Inspector Alan Edwards, the head of CID in Telford & Wrekin, said he was delighted at the three year and four month sentence given to David Lloyd at Shrewsbury Crown Court today, September 9.
And he pledged there will be no let-up in the fight against burglars and vowed that such criminals will be dealt with robustly and put before the courts.
Parents Plea Over Missing Daughter
The parents of missing Shropshire woman Tracy Gough today appealed for help in finding their daughter. John and Mary Gough are desperate for news of Tracy, who has not been seen since making a distress call to police late Saturday night on her mobile phone. She indicated she had hurt herself after falling into a hole or ditch while walking, possibly in the Cockshutt area of North Shropshire.
Despite extensive police inquiries and appeals for information, there have been no sightings or positive news of her whereabouts since.
Search Continues for Missing Shropshire Woman
Police are becoming increasingly concerned for the safety of a 29-year-old Shropshire woman missing since Saturday night after making a distress call saying she had fallen into a ditch or hole.
Tracy Gough rang police on her mobile phone shortly before 10pm on Saturday saying she had bumped her head after falling into a hole or ditch and was unable to get out.
Telephone contact was lost soon after but Tracy thought she might be in the Cockshutt area and phone triangulation checks on the location of the call also indicated it came from the Cockshutt area.
Police Appeal After Shetland Ponies Savaged
Shropshire Police are seeking information about injuries caused to five Shetland ponies at West Felton, near Oswestry, thought to have been caused by a dog. The ponies - four mares and a foal - were in a field on the outskirts of the village and suffered bite and puncture wounds. Several were so badly savaged, they may suffer permanent disability. The owner, Ms Amanda Woof, who breeds Shetland ponies as a hobby with her daughter, said she was horrified at the extent of the injuries.
Greenfields 'greenways' open day, Shrewsbury
Walkers and cyclists are invited to an open day on the new Greenfields 'Greenways' in Shrewsbury this Friday (3 July 2009). The event, organised by Shropshire Council's Cycle Shrewsbury team, will celebrate the completion of the first phase of Shrewsbury's 'Connect2' project. From 3pm to 5pm, there will be opportunities to take part in a quiz (on foot or by bike) using the newly surfaced paths. There will also be refreshments, a prize draw, opportunities to make a pedal-powered smoothie and get a free cycle check-up with Dr Bike at the Greenfields Bowling Club.
Pedalling the Green agenda in Telford and Wrekin
Workers across Telford & Wrekin ,including council staff will be putting their best pedal forward on Friday (JUNE 26) when they take part in the borough's Bike to Work Day.
The event is the culmination of a busy few weeks of events in Telford & Wrekin after National Bike Week was expanded locally to become Bike Month.
Employees across the borough are being encouraged to leave the car at home and savour the morning air as part of a campaign to encourage sustainable and environmentally friendly methods of travel.
