One of the most famous of pieces, Vivaldi's "Gloria" is to be performed at Shrewsbury Abbey 20th March by one of the largest groups of young voices in the county. The concert will also feature two brilliant violinists, both of whom are music scholars at Wrekin College; Matthew Duffield and Freyja Clarke. They will, together with the College Orchestra, perform Bach's famous double violin concerto.

The St George’s Day celebration event is returning to Southwater Square in Telford next month and is shaping up to be bigger and bolder than last year with a chance to meet St George himself.

The event on Saturday, April 24, from 11am to 4pm will be themed around all things medieval and traditionally English with Morris Dancing, brass bands, dance and musical performances, falconry, themed arts and crafts and storytelling.

Comedian Stephen K Amos’ top-selling show, ‘The Feelgood Factor’, coincided with Oakengates Theatre’s celebration of the first anniversary of ‘A Night Less Ordinary’, the Arts Council scheme which provides free theatre tickets to people under 26.

One of the young people commented, “The show was great and we really enjoyed it. I think the scheme is a brilliant idea as it gives younger people a chance to experience different areas of culture which could broaden their interests.”

Robbery  in Wellington

Police in Telford are appealing for information following a robbery in Wellington. The incident occurred close to the new bus station on Victoria Avenue on Sunday 17th January.

At around 3.20am, as the victim – a 19-year-old man – made his way home, he was approached by a group containing around 5 unknown men. Without warning the victim was punched a number of times before falling to the floor.

Telford & Wrekin Council’s Arts Development Team are putting on a free Christmas party for children and young people with disabilities at Midnight’s nightclub in Wellington next week and inviting young people and their families to book their places and join in the free fun.

Three parties for the different age groups will be held at Midnights nightclub in Wellington.

Children aged five to 11 are invited to the first party on Tuesday, 15 Dec from 5pm until 7pm.
