Distraction theft at Wrekin Retail Park
Telford Police officers are investigating after a lady’s bank cards were stolen from her car in Arleston yesterday morning. The incident occurred on the car park at Tesco supermarket on Wrekin Retail Park on Sunday 7th March.
At around noon, a lady was loading her shopping into her car when she was approached by an unknown woman. The woman asked the lady for directions and stated that she was travelling from Liverpool to Corby.
Bon voyage to Moorfield Primary School students
Students from a Newport primary school are heading abroad for an action packed trip to France, today. The pupils from Moorfield Primary School will be returning on Friday (MAR 12).
The journey starts at the school where they will be grabbing their seats on the coach ready to drive down to board the ferry from Portsmouth to Cherbourg.
The Year Six pupils will be staying at Chateau Beaumont in Les Courges, Chailland, where they will be able to zip wire across tree tops and scale climbing walls at the outdoor activity centre.
British Legion, Newport, burglary
Newport, Shropshire, Police officers are investigating a burglary in the town. The incident occurred at the British Legion Club on Audley Avenue.
At some time between 11.45pm on Sunday 28th February and 9am on Monday 1st March, it appears thieves broke into the premises by forcing open a fire door that leads into the function room.
The bar area in the club is locked overnight which prevents access but the thieves knocked through a wall inside the building to access the back of a safe and remove it from the wall.
Burglary in Newport
Shropshire Police are investigating following a burglary in Newport which resulted in a car being stolen. The incident occurred at an address on Fallow Deer Lawn on Friday 12th February.
At just after 1.50am, the victim in this incident was woken by the sound of glass smashing outside her property. She got out of bed to investigate and on looking out of her bedroom window saw that her car had gone from the driveway.
Burglary in Church Aston
Police are investigating following a burglary in Newport. The incident occurred at an address on Wellington Road in Church Aston sometime between 8pm on Tuesday 9th February and 7.30am on Wednesday 10th February.
Sometime overnight thieves broke into a garage at the property by using bolt cutters to cut off the padlock and removing the chain to open the doors.
Young people voting to elect YP reps
Young people in Telford and Wrekin have been voting throughout January and February to elect their representative and his or her deputy on the UK Youth Parliament.
An ongoing electoral process for 11-18 year olds will culminate at the council’s Civic Offices on Wednesday (FEB 10) when young people will open ballot boxes to find the candidate.
Telford & Wrekin Council has been proactively promoting the work of the Youth Parliament and it is hoped that more than 5,000 young people will vote in this year’s election.
Pavement Trial on Newport High Street
Paving which could be lining Newport High Street is currently on view and the Council wants to hear what residents think. The trial panels will be displayed until 15 February as part of the Borough Towns Initiative Scheme to regenerate the High Street.
As part of the scheme, the High Street between Upper Bar and Lower Bar, and Central Square will be re-paved and new street lighting and signage will also be introduced where appropriate.
Half-term holiday fun at borough leisure centres
Telford & Wrekin Council has organised a fun-packed programme of activities for young people throughout the borough this half-term, which runs from Monday, 15 to Friday, 19 February 2010.
The first holiday programme of 2010 promises to be great fun while offering something for everyone with a wide variety of activities every day.
Newport, Oakengates and Wellington pools have crash course swimming lessons available for juniors – or if skating is of more interest, Telford Ice Rink is running a course for any age or ability.
Piglets stolen in Newport burglary
Newport, Shropshire, Police are investigating following an unusual burglary in a neighbouring village. The incident occurred at a farm near Chetwynd sometime between 5pm on Tuesday 26th January and 8am on Wednesday 27th January.
Sometime overnight thieves drove off the A41 onto the farm in a vehicle (the type of which is not known at present, although it is suspected that a Land Rover could have been involved) and then made their way to a number of pens where around 210 piglets were housed.
Purse snatch appeal for help
Police in Newport, Shropshire, Telford are appealing for assistance as they attempt to identify two individuals who they believe could be important witnesses to a purse theft that occurred last year.
The incident occurred in Bargain Booze on St Marys Street in Newport on Thursday 26th August 2009. Between 3pm and 4pm, while the victim – a 44-year-old lady – was visiting a friend who worked in the shop, she left her handbag on a display stand while she was talking.
