With over 650 schemes and almost 15,000 households under its protection, Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) in Telford & Wrekin continues to go from strength-to-strength.

However, Telford's NHW Administrator Mrs Anne Walker is again encouraging residents of Telford & Wrekin to consider forming their own scheme if their area doesn’t already have one.

Two new Police Community Support Officers began work in north Shropshire today. They have joined West Mercia’s Local Policing teams in Market Drayton Town and Whitchurch Town areas.

CSO Andy Hudson has been appointed to the Market Drayton post working with PC Paul Frank and CSOs Andy King, Angeline Roche and Mike Ellis. CSO Alison Hodnett becomes part of the Whitchurch team, alongside PC Karena Evans and CSOs Tim Meredith, Graeme Baines and Laura Viner.

Police in Ellesmere have been educating schoolchildren in the town about how anti-social behaviour can affect the people around them.

Over the past few months, police and community support officers have been visiting all schools in the area to talk about both internet safety and nuisance behaviour that can affect people's quality of life.

The aim was to show pupils from all year groups what constitutes anti-social behaviour and how certain actions can be perceived by other people.

PostHeaderIcon Angling for fun with St Martins Youngsters

Police in St Martins are hoping to reel in local youngsters with a brand new summer fishing project for the village.

Starting on Saturday 7th August and running for three sessions, Get Hooked on Fishing will give teenagers in the village a productive outlet for their energy during the holidays.

Police Constable Bev Smith, Local Policing Officer for the area, has organised the project and said the first session on the 7th and last session on the 31st August would be competitions against the established fishing group from Meole Brace in Shrewsbury.

PostHeaderIcon Alcohol Exclusion Order for Shrewsbury Fields

An alcohol exclusion zone is set to be put in place in two fields near Shrewsbury's Quarry park to tackle underage drinking in the area.

A designated public place order has already been in place in The Quarry itself for a number of years following historical complaints of youths drinking and behaving in an anti-social manner.

While successfully reducing problems in the park and it is now common knowledge among youngsters that they cannot congregate, 'get drunk' and cause a nuisance in The Quarry, the issue has displaced across the river into Beck and Burrs Fields.

Youngsters living in two Shrewsbury suburbs will get the chance to go canoeing on the River Severn in return for work in the community.

In return for helping improve the area where they live, young people in Ditherington and Castlefields will be rewarded with team-building adventure trips.

The first challenge organised by the Castlefields and Heathgates Local Policing Team, working in partnership with the Local Joint Committee (LJC, will be to revamp and smarten up garage doors in Spring Gardens in conjunction with Severnside Housing.

PC John Walters, Local Policing Officer for Wrockwardine Wood and Trench, has confirmed that preparations are complete ahead of a 'Midweek Sports Challenge' event for young people that is being held on the athletics track at Oakengates Leisure Centre on Wednesday 4th August.

The event will give youngsters from four local schools - Wrockwardine Wood Infants, Wrockwardine Wood Junior School, Teague's Bridge Primary and St Luke's Primary - the chance to participate in a number of activities that will be loosely based on those that will form part of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

PostHeaderIcon Free art and drama workshops for young people and their families

Telford & Wrekin Council's Culture Zone is running several free art and drama workshops at the Salvation Army Centre in Oakengates this week.

These include a "learn how to fight like Batman and Robin sessions for lads and dads" on Thursday between 10-11.30am, which is open for young people aged 11-13 and their male relatives.

Parents and children aged up to six are invited to the Creative Play session to play with paint and other art materials on the same day between 1-4pm.

PostHeaderIcon Wenlock Downhill Bike Track Moving on Apace

Teenagers in Much Wenlock are set to hold a 'Dig Day' on a new bike track they are building with the support of two world-ranking downhill mountain bikers.

Members of Wenlock Bikers, made up of young people from the town and surrounding areas, are almost three-quarters of the way towards completing the course, which has been made possible due to partnership working between the police and the National Trust.
