Around this time of year it’s impossible to open a magazine or turn on the TV without seeing a cute rabbit. They’re everywhere on billboards, in magazines, and on packaging up and down the aisles of supermarkets. It’s no wonder that sales of pet rabbits explode at Easter. It’s at this time of year that ‘pester power’ comes into its own, with children begging their parents for a lovely fluffy bunny.
Police Warning Over Garden Sheds
Police are urging garden shed owners in Shropshire to maintain security to protect gardening equipment and other valuable items. The warning comes as gardeners prepare for the new season and are likely to be checking lawnmowers, power tools and other major equipment.
Several shed burglaries have already been reported around the county in recent weeks and police are anxious owners step up security wherever necessary.
Shropshire Division’s crime prevention manager, PC Tim Weaver has issued a series of tips under the catchphrase “Sheducate”.
Crime Victims Have Chance to Recover Stolen Property
Bridgnorth Police officers are urging victims of crime to attend a special viewing of stolen power tools and fishing equipment.
Numerous power tools, including strimmers, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, chain saws and sanders, together with fishing items including around 20 rods, are being put on display at Bridgnorth Police Station from 10am next Wednesday (Feb 10).
Is your shop missing some razor blades?
Shropshire Police officers are appealing to local stores in a bid to trace the owners of razor blades worth several hundred pounds. The leading brand blades are believed to have been stolen from a supermarket or shop yesterday.
They were recovered by officers who stopped a man on Old Potts Way, Shrewsbury. He was in possession of two boxes of eight Mach3 Turbo razor blades, three boxes of eight Gillette M3 Power blades and five boxes of eight Gillette blades and eight HP printer cartridges.
CAMRA Calls for Fair Deal for Beer in Pre-Budget Report
CAMRA has today written to the Chancellor asking him to end the special treatment of spirits in order to fund a reduction in beer duty and a zero rate of duty for beers 2.8% abv or below and to help compensate for the forthcoming increase in VAT. Following last year’s Pre-Budget Report excise duty on beer, wine and cider was increased by 8% whilst spirits were let off lightly with a rise of only 4%.

Gardens in Shropshire aren’t always rosy for wildlife
But common hazards can be easily removed and nasty injuries avoided says RSPB. Our garden may be our sanctuary at the end of a long day but there are lots of hidden risks for wildlife that we could avoid says the RSPB. The wildlife charity believes that even the smallest garden could be a wildlife haven, but birds and other creatures are sustaining injuries from hazards that could easily be prevented.
Over a quarter of all calls to the RSPB’s wildlife enquiries line at the moment are from gardeners reporting injuries to wildlife.
Market Drayton Pensioner’s Tools Stolen
Thieves have stolen a Shropshire pensioner’s power tools used for his hobby of woodworking. They broke into two outbuildings at his home in New Street Lane, Market Drayton overnight last Wednesday and stole equipment worth over £800. Police are appealing for information about the theft and those responsible.
The investigating officer, PC Dan Booth, said today: “This is a particularly sad case as the tools were part of his hobby in retirement, crafting all sorts of wooden items for the garden and home.”
Minor power cut in Wellington
There was a minor power cut in the centre of Wellington, this afternoon. Power was restored after some 5 to 10 minutes.
