Sing Gloria
One of the most famous of pieces, Vivaldi's "Gloria" is to be performed at Shrewsbury Abbey 20th March by one of the largest groups of young voices in the county. The concert will also feature two brilliant violinists, both of whom are music scholars at Wrekin College; Matthew Duffield and Freyja Clarke. They will, together with the College Orchestra, perform Bach's famous double violin concerto.
Renewed Appeal for Witnesses over Missing Shrewsbury Teenager
Detectives leading the search for a Shrewsbury teenager who has not been seen or heard from in over a month today renewed an appeal for information.
Officers continue to actively investigate the disappearance of Hayden Reynolds-Evans, 18, who was last seen when he left The Albion Vaults pub in the town centre just after 10pm on Monday, 1st February.
A specialist team was brought in yesterday(MAR 9) to carry out a search of the River Severn using sonar equipment, the results of which are currently being analysed.
Borough backs Fairtrade Fortnight
Telford & Wrekin Council have been showing their support for Fairtrade Fortnight with a stall selling Fairtrade goodies including crafts, jewellery, tea, coffee, cake, biscuits, chocolate and much more.
The stall was in Civic Offices on Monday 1 March, and organisers were delighted to have raised £111 over the course of a few hours.
If you missed the stall but would like to purchase Fairtrade products, supermarkets in the borough such as the Co op, Asda, Tesco, and Sainsbury’s sell a wide range of Fairtrade goods.
Shropshire-wide Purse Thefts Warning
Police across Shropshire today renewed warnings for people to be alert and keep a close eye on their valuables, especially purses and handbags, while shopping.
The advice comes after a number of purse thefts reported in various parts of the county in recent days, where purses were ‘dipped’ from bags.
Officers urged people to keep handbags securely fastened and to be aware of persons standing around or close to them at all times while out and about.
Shropshire Army Cadets Celebrate 150 of cadetting
Shropshire Army Cadet force will be celebrating being part of the oldest Youth organisation in the United Kingdom. 2010 marks 150 years since the Cadet movement first started, when the Cadet Corps was formed to help bolster the country's defence numbers following heavy losses in the Crimean War.
Walkmill Bridge repairs
Walkmill Bridge, near Wentnor, Shropshire, will be closed for urgent repairs to damaged caused by an accident. The work will commence on22 February 2010. The bridge, which carries the Wentnor to Shrewsbury road over the River East Onny, was severely damaged in early December when a vehicle hit the bridge. This resulted in the total demolition of the bridge’s southern parapet together with extensive damage to the bridge walls beneath the parapet.
Shropshire “Special” Receives Top Award
A senior member of the Special Constabulary in Shropshire has received a top award for his devoted service. Sub Divisional Officer John Allcock won the “Volunteer of the Year” category at the West Mercia Justice Awards.
The Awards, organised by the West Mercia Criminal Justice Board, recognise teams and individuals across the criminal justice system who have gone the extra mile to deliver justice.
Eight category winners were presented with their awards by West Mercia’s Chief Constable Mr Paul West, who is also chair of the local Criminal Justice Board.
Renewed Appeal Over Missing Shrewsbury Teenager
Concern is growing for the welfare of a Shrewsbury man who has not been seen or heard from in three days.
Hayden Reynolds-Evans, 18, was last seen leaving through the rear door of The Albion Vaults pub in Castle Foregate, having got off a train at the Railway Station just after 10pm on Monday (FEB 1).
He was due to meet with some friends at The Bird In Hand pub in Coton Hill but never arrived and police are extremely concerned about his wellbeing.
Possible Congestion warning during Funeral of Shropshire Teenager
Police today urged drivers to be prepared for traffic congestion in a village near Shrewsbury while the funeral of a teenager killed in a road collision takes place.
A large amount of people are expected to attend St George’s Church in Pontesbury on Friday (FEB 5) afternoon for the funeral of Sophie Rowlands, who died on January 25th after her car was in collision with a lorry on the A53.
Is your shop missing some razor blades?
Shropshire Police officers are appealing to local stores in a bid to trace the owners of razor blades worth several hundred pounds. The leading brand blades are believed to have been stolen from a supermarket or shop yesterday.
They were recovered by officers who stopped a man on Old Potts Way, Shrewsbury. He was in possession of two boxes of eight Mach3 Turbo razor blades, three boxes of eight Gillette M3 Power blades and five boxes of eight Gillette blades and eight HP printer cartridges.
