A little boy from China who got lost in South Shropshire was quickly reunited with his relieved mum thanks to the help of the police and two restaurant staff from Ludlow.

The eight-year-old boy had only arrived in the country on Tuesday July 27, to visit his mum who lives in Cleobury Mortimer.

He had gone for a walk yesterday afternoon but, not knowing the area, had got lost, ending up in the middle of nowhere, over a mile outside the town on the A4117.

New Street, Wellington-based Brides By Appointment have worked very hard to raise money for the Barnardo's charity. This week they have organised a special fundraising week. All the proceeds will go to Barnardo's Children's Charity.

The money raised will help fund local Shropshire projects, the advice line and respite care. Prizes in the draw were all provided as donations. And the "Name the Bride" competition proved to be a real crowd puller.

An alcohol exclusion zone is set to be put in place in two fields near Shrewsbury's Quarry park to tackle underage drinking in the area.

A designated public place order has already been in place in The Quarry itself for a number of years following historical complaints of youths drinking and behaving in an anti-social manner.

While successfully reducing problems in the park and it is now common knowledge among youngsters that they cannot congregate, 'get drunk' and cause a nuisance in The Quarry, the issue has displaced across the river into Beck and Burrs Fields.

Shropshire Police officers today issued an appeal to horse and stable owners to ensure their properties were secure after a large amount of riding tackle was stolen from a village near Market Drayton.

Although tack thefts remain relatively unusual in the county, when they happen they tend to happen in spates and people are urged to take steps to reduce the risk of their premises being targeted.

Between about 8.20pm on Wednesday July 28 and yesterday and 7.15am yesterday, a stables in Ollerton was broken into an upwards of 14 saddles and 20 bridles stolen.

Shropshire businesses are being challenged to recognise first aid as a vital element of their corporate social responsibility, not just as a legal tick box, but as a way of reducing the number of unnecessary deaths.

Research by first aid charity St John Ambulance found that up to 150,000 people die in situations where first aid could have given them a chance to live. Up until now the magnitude of this problem was not known.

A new campaign is being launched to revitalise Bridgnorth's Pubwatch scheme to ensure the town remains a safe and friendly haven for people visiting licensed premises.

Bridgnorth Pubwatch was set up by the local police in June 2003 and although it has 17 members, the scheme has lost impetus in recent months with only a handful attending meetings.

But current chairperson Tracey Dobell, of The Harp, working with Shropshire's new Best Bar None and Pubwatch Co-ordinator Kelly Harris, is determined to develop the scheme and recruit new members.
