Calling Budding photographers!
Local rail company, Wrexham & Shropshire is calling on budding photographers of all ages to put their talents to the test, and win the chance to contribute photos to the company’s first ever charity calendar for 2011.
The lucky overall winner will not only have their photo displayed in the charity calendar, but also on the prized front cover. They will also win a pair of first class tickets for a trip to London. Shropshire-based charity in volunteer call
Calling all animal lovers! Leading veterinary charity PDSA is appealing for people to donate a little of their time to the cause by lending a ‘paw’ at its new Telford warehouse.
PDSA is looking to recruit volunteers who can help process and despatch goods to locations across the UK. Located at Halesfield Industrial Estate, PDSA’s new warehouse supplies goods and products to the charity’s 48 busy PetAid hospitals and 180 retail stores nationwide.
Newport man killed in crash
A motorcyclist who was killed in a four-vehicle collision near Shrewsbury at the weekend, was today named as Adrian Jones, aged 34, of Masons Place, Newport, Shropshire.
Mr Jones died when his two-tone black Suzuki motorcycle was involved in a crash on the B5062 at Uffington, near the crossroads for Haughton and Withington at about 9.20pm on Sunday.
A post mortem was held yesterday and an inquest is expected to open either later this week or next week.
Detectives Commended For Child Abuse Investigation
Three Shropshire detectives have been commended for their investigation into the sexual abuse of young children resulting in the offender being jailed for 14 years.
Detective Constables Sarah Matthews, Nicola Cassidy and Sarah Smither have been awarded Divisional Commendations for their "dedication and commitment in sensitively dealing with vulnerable child victims, thereby securing a conviction against the offender."
The man was convicted of nine serious sexual offences and was sentenced to a total of 14 years in prison.
Thieves kill Shropshire town’s ‘phone service
Police in South Shropshire are appealing for information after thieves tried to steal underground cable and in doing so cut off telephone lines in Cleobury Mortimer.
The incident happened on the A456 Cleobury Mortimer to Kidderminster road, between The Blount Arms and Horse and Jockey pubs.
Two men were see acting suspiciously in the area between about 1am and 2.30am on Friday August 20, they made off when they were disturbed by a member of the public.

Man Arrested Following Drugs Warrant in Bridgnorth
A man has been arrested when police officers carried out a drugs warrant at a home in Bridgnorth.
Eight officers were involved in executing the warrant at a house in The Hookfield on Saturday morning.
They made a forced entry and seized 12 cannabis plants and a number of associated items.
A man was arrested at the premises and has since been charged with cultivating cannabis and obstructing the police. He was bailed to appear before Telford magistrates next month.
Witness Appeal After Cyclist Dies at Beckbury
Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist came off his bike in a village near Shifnal and later died in hospital.
Officers were called to Ryton Road, Beckbury shortly after 12.30pm yesterday, August 22, following reports a man in his 50s has been found lying at the side of the road with his bike.
He was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford for treatment but died later that afternoon.
Shropshire Licensees Fail Police Sting
Pubs, clubs and restaurants across Shropshire have been caught out selling alcohol to underage council spies in a “sting” operation mounted by Trading Standards officers and police.
Licensees in three towns fell foul of the law in a series of test purchase visits during Operation Knight, a joint exercise by Shropshire Trading Standards supported by West Mercia Police.
The two agencies are warning pub landlords and others in the licensed trade they risk being closed down if they ‘persist’ in selling alcoholic drink to young people under 18.
