PC John Walters, Local Policing Officer for Wrockwardine Wood and Trench, has confirmed that preparations are complete ahead of a 'Midweek Sports Challenge' event for young people that is being held on the athletics track at Oakengates Leisure Centre on Wednesday 4th August.

The event will give youngsters from four local schools - Wrockwardine Wood Infants, Wrockwardine Wood Junior School, Teague's Bridge Primary and St Luke's Primary - the chance to participate in a number of activities that will be loosely based on those that will form part of the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Blists Hill Victorian Town desperately needs residents to vote for it in the Art Fund Prize 2010 for Museums and Galleries.

The Museum in Ironbridge is in with a chance of winning £100,000 - the largest arts prize in Britain.

The Museum is up against some very strong competition including the Natural History Museum, the Ashmolean in Oxford and Hampton Court.

It is currently vying for the top spot with the Ulster Museum.

Hundreds of Telford and Wrekin residents enjoyed a range of free activities at the opening of a new state of the art bicycle track and children’s play area in Arleston.

The celebration was to launch the refurbishment of the former play area at Windsor Road, Arleston and the new off road bicycle track off Ketley Brook Roundabout, Arleston.

The new cycle track is one of the first council-managed hybrid Mountain bike/ BMX pump track in the country and is used for training by some local world ranking Mountain bike (MTB) Downhill racers, plus the general public.

PostHeaderIcon Fun mini tennis sessions in borough parks

A successful scheme to run fun mini tennis sessions for children aged five to nine years old is restarting next Tuesday (APR 13) in Telford and Wrekin.

The sessions -part of the Barclays Spaces for Sport - will be held in Dawley and Hartshill, Oakengates parks during next week and the cost is £1 per session.

They will be led by tennis coach Paul Roberts-Bennett and beginners are very welcome. All equipment will be provided.

Sessions will be held every day from Tuesday (APR 13) to Friday (APR 16).

Shropshire’s St John Ambulance is appealing for people to come forward with real-life stories of how first aid helped them. The charity, which trains hundreds of thousands of people nationwide in life-saving first aid skills every year, wants to hear how first aid, from stemming severe bleeds to putting someone in the recovery position, has made a difference to Shropshire folk.

The three-day seminar, which began in Birmingham today, is being hosted by the Child Safety Education Coalition (CSEC) and AdRisk (the Community Action on Adolescents and Injury Risk project, a European initiative).

The planning application for the new Abraham Darby Sports and Learning Community in Madeley comprising Abraham Darby Academy (part of the Haberdashers Family of Schools), Woodlands Primary and a range of sporting and health facilities, has been submitted to the Council.

Telford & Wrekin Council awarded the first phase of the £200million contract to build Sports and Learning Communities to the Kier group – which submitted the application on Friday (October 30).

The real reason behind the decision to scrap the TSLEC project has been made known. The truth is that the funding proposals just did not stack up. In an official statement, Telford and Wrekin Borough Council pointed out that a funding shortfall of up to £2.5 million forced it to withdraw from the original plans for investment in the Telford Sports Learning and Enterprise Community (TSLEC).

Budding young singing star Daniel Crossley is warming up for his biggest gig yet at the borough’s CultureFest – via the time honoured pop star method of singing into the mirror! Telford’s Got Talent winner Daniel is also starting to practice songs from different genres such as musical theatre and rock to help him broaden his live repertoire. But he’s promised his fans that R&B will remain his first love as he prepares for the event in Telford Town Park on Saturday August 29.
