Wellington residents, businesses and visitors are being urged to have their say on the latest plans to regenerate the market town. Work is under way on a brand new £8.5 million Civic Quarter and a £1.2 million scheme to repave Market Square, New Street and the pedestrianised part of Walker Street between Rasputins and the Halifax Bank.

Consultation has now started to ask people for their opinions on whether key streets in the town centre should be pedestrianised.

The countryside comes to Shrewsbury town centre at 10am on Saturday 17 July. Countryside campaigners from across Shropshire will set up stall in The Square to promote the rural way of life.

Falconers, a farrier, ferreters, ice cream makers, honey producers, cake bakers, farmers to name but a few, will all be there with the tools and animals of their trades. Daisy the cow will even be present in the town centre ready for milking!

Key organisations responsible for services in Telford and Wrekin are gearing up for the next Your Community Matters event in the borough, which takes place in Wellington on Sunday July 11, at Bowring Park.

Residents in the west and north of the borough are being invited to the public event where they will have the chance to put their questions and concerns to representatives from organisations Telford & Wrekin Council, the police, the NHS, the fire service and Wrekin Housing Trust.

PostHeaderIcon Local contractor to undertake Wellington repaving scheme

Contractors will be moving on site to start the repaving of Wellington town centre on Monday.

Local firm McPhillips (Wellington) Ltd have secured the contract for the scheme to repave New Street, Market Square and the area outside Rasputin's.

Roads in the centre of Wellington - New Street, Market Square, Bell Street, Crown Street and Duke Street - are now closed while the first phase of the repaving scheme is completed.

PostHeaderIcon Centre of Wellington to be closed for several months

The centre of Wellington is to be closed for several months, Wellington News can reveal. Businesses and residents of the centre of Wellington should, by now, have received a leaflet and questionnaire outlining the proposals.

New Street, Bell Street, Crown Street, Duke Street, Walker Street and Market Square will be closed from 7 June until 31 October.

The council points out that the first stage of the works will be to repave New Street and what it describes as "preliminary works" in Walker Street and Market Square.
