PostHeaderIcon Six men charged in human trafficking investigation

Detective Superintendent Steve Cullen has confirmed that six men will this morning be appearing at Telford Magistrates Court charged with a number of human trafficking offences.

The charges have been brought as part of an ongoing, long-term operation into human trafficking and sexual offences that is being conducted in conjunction with a number of partner agencies.

Detective Superintendent Cullen, who is leading this investigation, said:

PostHeaderIcon Wellington Traders: Please attend the Wellington Regeneration Traders Meeting

Telford & Wrekin Council is urging all traders in Wellington to attend a meeting to discuss the regeneration works that will be taking place this year.

Market stalls and local shops have received flyers advertising the meeting that will take place on Tuesday 16 March, 6pm at All Saints Parish Church hall.

At the meeting, local traders will be able to ask council officers questions about the regeneration works and raise any issues or concerns that they may have.

PostHeaderIcon Burglary in Wellington

Police officers in Wellington are appealing for information following a burglary in the town. The incident occurred at an address on St Margaret’s Drive sometime between 4.20pm on Friday 5th March and 5pm on Saturday 6th March.

Sometime during the time period in question it appears that thieves entered a garage that adjoins the property by opening an insecure door. Once inside the garage it appears the thieves carried out a thorough search before stealing a number of items and making their escape.

PostHeaderIcon Planning permission granted for £6 million Telford development

A proposal by Wrekin Housing Trust for the redevelopment of Dothill has approved by Telford & Wrekin Council.

The development of Dothill in Wellington will see the demolition of 90 flats, to be replaced with 59 new homes including two, three and four bedroom houses, three bedroom maisonettes and two bedroom flats. The flats are designed to be modern and contemporary. Parking will be fully catered for, located to be accessible to the homes. All the houses will feature gardens, residents in the flats will have ‘private’ communal garden spaces.

PostHeaderIcon Refurb for Wellington’s ‘oldest pub’

What is thought to be Wellington’s oldest trading pub, The White Lion in Crown Street, has been given a new lease of life, after being taken over by new management.

A spokesman for the White Lion said: “Although the inside of the pub was sound, it was in need of a make-over, so we decided to close down for several days, while a team of skilled tradesmen and women worked on the pub. And all praise to them, because in the time that was available to them, they did an absolutely first rate job.”

Police in Telford are appealing for witnesses following a road rage incident on the M54 that continued into Wellington. The incident occurred on Wednesday 3rd March.

Sometime between 10.20am and 11am the drivers of two vehicles reportedly became involved in a dispute as they travelled eastbound from the Preston Island towards Telford.

PostHeaderIcon Shropshire-wide Purse Thefts Warning

Police across Shropshire today renewed warnings for people to be alert and keep a close eye on their valuables, especially purses and handbags, while shopping.

The advice comes after a number of purse thefts reported in various parts of the county in recent days, where purses were ‘dipped’ from bags.

Officers urged people to keep handbags securely fastened and to be aware of persons standing around or close to them at all times while out and about.
