Telford & Wrekin Council has organised a fun-packed programme of activities for young people throughout the borough this half-term, which runs from Monday, 15 to Friday, 19 February 2010.

The first holiday programme of 2010 promises to be great fun while offering something for everyone with a wide variety of activities every day.

Newport, Oakengates and Wellington pools have crash course swimming lessons available for juniors – or if skating is of more interest, Telford Ice Rink is running a course for any age or ability.

Telford Snowboard and Ski Centre is holding an Activity Week where 10 to15 year olds can experience snowboarding and snowblading, in addition to skiing.

Those aged five to 12 can take part in various activities, including short tennis, kwik cricket, badminton and rounders at Oakengates Leisure Centre. An Activity Day will also take place at Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre on 19 February from 11am to 4pm.

Activities also on offer include trampolining and tennis at Phoenix Sports Centre; trampolining and gymnastics at Stirchley Recreation Centre; ice skating (SK8 sessions) at Telford Ice Rink; swimming at Madeley Court Sports Centre, Newport Swimming Pool, Oakengates Leisure Centre and Wellington Civic & Leisure Centre.

The Council’s Leisure Services are also offering football courses for five to 14 year olds, from 9am to 3pm daily, with an FA Charter Standard Coaching Course at Telford College and a Football Fun Course is being held at Burton Borough School in Newport – contact (01952) 382329 for full details.

Councillor Stephen Bentley, Cabinet Member for Active Lifestyles, Leisure and Culture said: “Telford & Wrekin Council provides some excellent sporting facilities offering a range of activities to suit everyone.

“This February half-term we are providing a fun filled and active list of classes and youngsters under 19 can also able to take advantage of free swimming during public sessions at all four swimming pools.”

Residents can also take advantage of the Council’s free Flex Card offer which gives a minimum 15 per cent discount for a one year period. Free Concessionary Flex Cards are also available for some users.
