Shropshire Council is inviting local people and businesses to have their say about parking in Shropshire.

This consultation, which starts today (Wednesday 21 July) for 12 weeks, will focus on and help shape the council's parking strategy.

This strategy has recently been drafted to provide a consistent approach to parking across the county. It brings together a number of different policies and practices following the move to Shropshire Council in April 2010.

Whist it does put forward a coherent approach to parking, officers have worked hard to ensure that it reflects the local issues in market towns.

The strategy also includes parking charges, Park & Ride and residents parking.

Martin Taylor-Smith, Shropshire Council's Cabinet member for strategic planning and transport, said: "This is the very start of the process - we want to hear from you. All of your responses will be carefully considered before any decisions are made.

"We recognise that every market town is different and, through extensive consultation with you and by working closely with town councils, we will tailor our options to meet local needs."

People can comment on this strategy by visiting www.shropshire.gov.uk/parking.nsf, calling 0345 678 9000 or emailing transport@shropshire.gov.uk.
