Children passing by Wellington Library on Saturday were captivated by the new Nativity display being assembled in the Library window. Young children were tugging at their mother’s sleeve to stop and look as all the familiar figures appeared – Mary, Joseph, the Angel Gabriel, shepherds, animals, wise men – but each one had been hand-knitted by different members of the new Mothers Union branch at All Saints Wellington.

The beautiful nativity scene is a new feature in the annual display arranged by Churches Together in Wellington, Hadley and Leegomery, and can be seen in Wellington town library until the end of December.

Gill Ireland, branch leader of the Mothers Union, said, “We have been knitting nativities as gifts for local primary schools to help teachers explain the Christmas story. But when Churches Together approached us we were happy to help so that as many children as possible might see this lovely reminder of the real meaning of Christmas.”
