More doors, more scores
Over 50 premises have been added to Telford & Wrekin Council’s popular Scores on the Doors site at http://www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk/council/telford-and-wrekin-council this month.
In the latest update nearly 40 premises received three stars or more. Premises need over two stars to comply with the law.
This is excellent news for local people and visitors to the area. Scores on the Doors is helping people to see what premises are taking food hygiene and safety seriously. This gives people an informed choice of where they go to eat or buy food in Telford and Wrekin.
Those with five stars include Wonderland in the Town Park, the café at Parkwood – the Extra Care facility in Woodside, Telford Mind’s Support Café in Sutton Hill, as well as Redhill Primary School and Bennett House in Woodside.
The Scores on the Doors website launched on 1 June 2008 and is the only such scheme in the area.
Scores on the Doors rates all food businesses, from restaurants, pubs and takeaways to care homes and private caterers with between five and zero stars for food hygiene and safety following inspections by the Council’s Environmental Health Officers.
Any star rating can be withdrawn if a business’s standards are found to have dropped at a later inspection.
As well as results being open to anyone to view on the website at www.telford.gov.uk/scoresonthedoors. Businesses will receive a star rating certificate that they can display, if they wish.
In addition they have the facility to comment on their scores via the website and there is an appeal process, should they feel this to be necessary.
Councillor Miles Hosken, Cabinet Member for Community Protection, said: “Scores on the Doors in Telford and Wrekin is getting more and more popular, Thousands of people use the site every month to check out the food places they are looking to visit. This is such a useful tool for local people and visitors.
“It is also important that this scheme is helping to drive up food standards and encourage food businesses to strive for a high star rating, which will attract custom, but ultimately mean more hygienic and safe food preparation and selling.”
