Telford Dance Festival set to return with a high-class line-up
Telford Dance Festival is returning to the borough for the second time next week, boasting a fantastic line-up of local and national dancers, both amateur and professional.
The festival is organised by Telford Culture Zone and Pablo Productions and starts on Tuesday with performances at 7.30 nightly until Friday at The Place @ Oakengates.
On Saturday there will be two performances of a professional piece for children, DanSense, at 2pm and 6pm.
DanSense is a contemporary and interactive piece for children and families which has been specially commissioned by Telford Culture Zone to celebrate dance.
Top professionals and young people’s dance groups from Telford and Wrekin and for the first time – Shropshire, will come together to celebrate the art of dance.
Young people will showcase their talent in a variety of forms and styles while getting invaluable experience from performing alongside top professionals.
Each evening will present a dynamic, exciting mix of performances from local young people, emerging new dance artists and professional companies.
Some of the work has been created for this event and other performances will be on display as part of national touring schedules.
The festival provides an opportunity for dancers to meet and share their experience, enthusiasm and skills.
For some it is another opportunity to perform to a live audience whilst for others, it is their first time on stage.
The professional line-up includes acts such as 2Faced Dance, Nachda Sansaar, Sonia Sabri, and Sublime.
Councillor Stephen Bentley, Cabinet Member for Active Lifestyles, Leisure and Culture, said: “Dance is a great form of physical expression and excercise - performed and enjoyed by people all over the world.
“It plays an important part in every culture and can express every human feeling, mood and emotion.
“It is also a great form of exercise and the Council is pleased to see this important event returning this year and featuring the talents of so many local and professional dancers.”
