Yesterday (Sunday)  members of Wellington Rotary Club collected money for the Haiti Emergency at the entrance to the Tesco store in Wellington. “We knew that Shropshire people were generous but we were absolutely astonished to collect £ 1588.50!” said a delighted spokesman.

“ This money will be used to buy ShelterBoxes which will be transported to Haiti very quickly and allocated appropriately by the teams of Rotary volunteers who are already at work in Haiti.

“We would like to pass on out thanks to all those who gave so generously and, of course, to the management at Tesco who provided us with the opportunity to collect.

“If anyone would like to see what the contents of a Shelterbox looks like they can do so by visiting Furrow's Showroom on Haybridge Road.

“This morning 12 members of the Club erected the Shelterbox tent among the cars and laid out all the other equipment that is contained in a ShelterBox. The display will be there for the next two weeks until 1st February. A box and buckets are there so that members of the public who have not yet contributed can do so. Again our thanks are due to Furrows for facilitating this display.”

A ShelterBox is a green, heavy duty plastic container filled with a 10 person tent and other survival gear. Each box costs £ 490 including delivery though some delivery costs are being minimised by airlines such as Virgin providing free transport.
