Wellington scheme: Have your say
Wellington folk are being asked to give their views on Telford Wrekin Borough Council's £8 million scheme to regenerate the town centre. From Monday (Feb 2), the Council is hosting a series of consultation events so that people can give their views on the vision that the Council has drawn up for a new Civic quarter for Wellington.
The scheme would include a new library and register office, improvements to the existing Wellington Leisure Centre and new offices for up to 200 people.
The Council, following the consultation will submit a detailed planning application for the scheme in March and hopes that, subject to planning approval, work could start on the site in the Autumn.

Cllr Eric Carter, cabinet member for regeneration, said: "This scheme forms part of the ambitious plans the Council has for the Borough and its Borough Towns Initiative (BTI) that would create a new gateway for Wellington and kick-start the regeneration that the area so badly needs.
"We want to get this started as soon as possible for the people of Wellington and for the local economy. The Council has already spoken with many different groups to help shape our vision for Wellington.
"As we now move forward to prepare a planning application, it's vital we hear the views from as many people as possible and I hope that the people of Wellington will take part."
The Wellington regeneration concept includes:
* A new registry office, with a screened garden and seating area
* A new state-of-the-art modern library to replace the existing library
* Office accommodation for up to 200 people. This will bring people working into the heart of Wellington which will further support the local economy
* Increasing the quality and size of the current fitness suite and a major refurbishment of the changing rooms in the Leisure Centre
* Creating a new public square near the town centre and generally creating a high quality environment and public space
* Rerouting Larkin Way to create a high-quality link between the Civic area and Wellington Town Centre
* Building up to 40 new homes for older people
At present, the plans do not include provisions for a Wrekin Area Museum, which has been the subject of previous discussions between Telford and Wrekin Borough Council over the past twelve months.
