Young bands get chance to support established act
Five young local bands who are part of Telford & Wrekin Council’s successful rock school project are gearing up to support experienced band Capture Kendal later this month.
The gig takes place on February 24 at Oakengates Theatre @ The Place and gives an opportunity for bands from local schools and colleges to experience working alongside an excellent three piece band.
Bands include Party Republic, a six piece indie rock band who attend the Charlton School in Wellington. They have been together since May 2008 and have been writing and rehearsing their own material since day one.
Other groups include Antiwipeout and all girl band Apocalips, both from the Lord Silkin rock school.
The gig will be opened by a young band of primary school children chosen from the innovative Lawley Primary rock school project.
Also playing will be Cookie, who will be performing a chilled out acoustic set in the bar at 7pm.
Tickets for the live band night are £4 in advance or £5 on the door. They can be bought from The Place on 01952 382382 or online at www.telford.gov.uk and under 18s are welcome.
Main act Capture Kendal have played more than 80 gigs around the West Midlands including the Birmingham Academy and Barfly.
The band’s style blends a mixture of influences from the likes of Kings Of Leon to Silversun Pickups, fusing elements of indie rock, punk and hard rock.
Councillor Stephen Burrell, cabinet member for children and young people, said: “This concert demonstrates our commitment to providing a diverse range of entertainment for young people in the borough and gives members of the five young bands valuable experience in playing with an established act.”
