The famous Midlands-based 'Little Big Band' will be performing an afternoon concert at Wrekin College on Sunday 14th June to raise funds for Severn Hospice. This is the original CBSO in miniature, a 6-piece ensemble with a huge repertoire of orchestral favourites, arranged in the Band's own unique style and delivered with their trademark humour and showmanship - a whole orchestral concert in bite-size pieces.

Telford & Wrekin Council will be taking the Shropshire countryside to Birmingham next month when a member of staff makes their debut at a prestigious gardening show. Environmental Maintenance officer Keith Slater is designing a border garden for next month's BBC Gardeners' World Live at Birmingham National Exhibition Centre. Keith, who is currently studying for a Level 3 BTEC National Certificate in Horticulture, is one of a number of students from the City of Wolverhampton College who will be exhibiting in the Birmingham Borders section of the celebrated show from 10 to 14 June.

Police in Shrewsbury today issued a safety warning after children were spotted swimming in the River Severn. A concerned member of the public contacted police when he saw young children jumping into the river from the boathouse landing stage between Porthill and Kingsland bridges at around 5.15pm yesterday. An officer attended and spoke to some youngsters who had been in the water, advising of the dangers of playing or swimming in the river. A police spokesman said today: "The River Severn is extremely dangerous, even when it's levels are low.

Four Telford homes, involved in a Telford & Wrekin Council project to reduce food waste, celebrated the project’s success at The Green Wood Trust. Everyone who attended brought along meals that were made from leftover food. In the UK, many households are believed to waste between £400 and £600 per year on food waste depending on the size of the household. Between January and April 2009, Telford & Wrekin Council worked with these homes, encouraging everyone to follow simple rules to reduce unnecessary food waste and save money.

West Mercia Criminal Justice Board have produced a short film aimed at everyone and anyone who wants to know more about the Criminal Justice System. The film will be aired for the first time to an audience at Telford Shopping Centre for 7 days starting on Bank Holiday Monday, 25th May. The West Mercia Criminal Justice Board teamed up with LBV television and have produced a short film on the Criminal Justice System. The film shows two scenarios, one adult offender and one young offender, both played by actors.
